Manitoba Highway Accident
A Manitoba Highways worker is dead after a crash in the R-M of Woodlands. R-C-M-P say they were called to a rollover on Road 72 North yesterday morning.
Emergency crews found a Manitoba Highways and Transportation truck turned over and pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
Alcohol is not considered to be a factor. RCMP and Manitoba Workplace Safety are assisting with the investigation.
Suicide Inquest
A two month inquest into the death of an 18-year-old woman has concluded in Winnipeg with community advocates calling for more transitional support for young offenders with mental health issues after they are released from jail.
The woman killed herself just over a month after she was released from custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
The inquest was told she had been in the care of Anishinaabe Child and Family Services, had a mental illness and was convicted of committing a serious crime.
Her 19 year-old sister was looking after her when she died. Groups at the inquest said the sister wasn't given the support she needed to provide the necessary care.
