World Vision Canada says Manitobans are among the most likely to give meaningful gifts this holiday season.
They say over 2,400 Manitobans, including 18 Dauphinites, made donations last year, with most of the gifts being livestock. Some of the other popular gifts bought in the World Vision Catalogue include medicine, filters to purify water, and school supplies and clothes for children in need in developing countries.
Manitoba Representative for World Vision Canada Chris Schroeder says people are more likely to make donations when they can see how it will make a difference.
"The more personal it is for an individual in Manitoba, you know, to have a sense of what it is precisely they're doing to make a difference, the more joy they receive. And that's part of what we like to see with the gift catalogue."
Schroeder says 80 percent of Manitobans surveyed by Ipsos-Reid wanted to make meaningful donations this year, which is about 4 percent above the national average. High numbers were also recorded in Saskatchewan and the Atlantic provinces.
