A lot of fuss is being made in Manitoba over politicians using taxpayer money to send out Christmas cards.
Debbie Discher of Beausejour told CBC Manitoba yesterday that she's furious that political parties are wasting taxpayer money to send out cards.
In the CBC article, Liberal MLA Jon Gerrard said the average mail out costs about $6,000 per constituency, or over $340,000 for the whole province.
Dauphin MLA Stan Struthers prefers to send out calendars instead of cards, believing they're worth the cost.
"The calendars I think are very useful. I will do that again this Christmas. As a matter of fact, they've already been sent out. And I do believe it's incumbent on MLA's to make sure that they're accessible and they have their contact information out there so people know how to get a hold of us."
Several Dauphinites told CKDM yesterday that if politicians want to send out things like cards to their constituents, it should come out of their own pockets. Some also suggested they would send cards back to send the message that they are not wanted.
