A large number of Manitoba farmers have insurance on their crops for 2015.
Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation says they have about 8600 clients for this year.
According to David Koroscil, manager of insurance projects and sales for MASC, having crop insurance protects farmers from a variety of issues.
"Primary causes of loss, particularly in the last few years have been excess moisture related losses. Also we've seen over time, drought can have a big impact. Even taking a look at this year, lots of areas of the province are looking for some rain, particularly for the forage and pastures to get them going and get a good start to the season for them. Particularly in the southern part of the province this year, seeding has got underway a lot earlier than it has in the past few years."
Koroscil says MASC has paid out between $75 million and $300 million in claims in recent years.
