A lower Canadian dollar means good news for potato growers in Manitoba.

According to Dan Sawatzky, manager of the Keystone Potato Producers Association, says 85 per cent of potatoes produced in Manitoba are exported to the US.

Sawatzky says the volume of potato exports from Manitoba is expected to grow.

"The reason why we're experiencing some increase in our volumes here is really based on the exchange rate allowing the processors here to see more profitability"

Sawatzky says when it comes to overall potato production, Manitoba is the second biggest potato producing province in Canada.
