Though Environment Canada calls for a cooler week with temperatures right around 20 degress, the Vermillion Park Splash Pad is now open for the season.
Wesley Carnegie, Operations Manager, said it'll be open for a while this year, and because of how things have lined up, they were able to turn on the pipes a lot sooner.
"Right now it's open 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, 7 days a week we run it, and it usually goes until September long weekend...actually we're a little bit early this year, usually we open it almost toward the end of school, only because that's kind of when more of the kids go, but this year everything went properly installing, and we had no problems putting it in, so we were able to open it a little bit earlier," said Carnegie.
The Splash Pad is a pretty big deal for the community. It lets families enjoy some fun in the water on a hot day, without having to drive up to the lake. That importance was noticed by the City of Dauphin, who included upgrades to their washrooms in this year's budget. Carnegie said he's very thankful for that inclusion, and even though it'll take a while to upgrade, the City's contributions will go a long way.
"People book birthday parties there, family events on the weekend, it's very important. It is older infrastructure, so stuff does break down, but last year everything ran properly, and this year we're looking for the same thing...I'm looking to do the renovations in September, because they are significant, there's no way we could get them done before actually opening up the park, so we're going to wait until we're done [for the season], so next season there will be significant improvements to the washrooms," said Carnegie.
Once the weather warms up, if you're looking to cool down, you'll be able to do so at the Vermillion Park Splash Pad.

Construction could begin by this fall on a permanent ag heritage building at the Ukrainian Heritage Village, south of Dauphin.
The 40 by 100 foot building could be open by next syummer, and would be home to antique farm machinery and tools, with accompanying audio and video displays.
Fundraising for the $230,000 project began over two years ago, with $223,000 raised to date.
Jim Perchaluk says they will be looking to local farmers interested in donating towards the final amount needed for the project.
"We are opening the door to personal donations. If there are farmers in the area, or people that have ties to say their grandparents were farmers in the area, or someone that would just like to be a part of this project. We are going to have a recognition wall within the building that will recognize the names of those that are providing donations."
Perchaluk added that tax receipts will be issued for all donations.

It's back again! The City of Dauphin will be hosting their Canada Day Party in the Park. It'll be in CN Park from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Canada Day, which is a Wednesday this year.
Lisa Gaudet, Deputy City Manager, said they've made a few positive changes for the event's second year, including extending the time.
"This is the second year we've hosted the event, and we're excited to build on the success of last year's celebration, it's really about bringing people together to celebrate Canada Day in a fun, welcoming atmosphere, right here in Dauphin...last year's event was very well received, people enjoyed having a community gathering that was free, family-oriented, and accessible," said Gaudet.
The City has a few vendors and organizations lined up to have tables at the event, and they're still looking to book a food truck, though Gaudet expects that shouldn't take much longer to get.
"We're working on securing a food truck for the event, we have Sobr Market on site offering alcohol-free beverages, but we have the call out for a food truck, and we're hoping we'll be able to confirm that soon," said Gaudet.
If private parties are more your style, that's not a problem, unless you plan on lighting fireworks. Gaudet said if you're planning on lighting up the sky, you'll need a permit for that.
"If people want to have private Canada Day celebrations that involve fireworks, there is a permit that is required, so they would need to contact the Fire Department to be issued a permit for fireworks," said Gaudet.
Only a few weeks away now, Canada Day in Dauphin is already shaping up to be a fun evening for everyone in Dauphin.

A lot of familiar staples will be returning to this year's edition of the Dauphin Ag Society Fair.
Those include the midway, stock dog trials, horse shows, and home living displays.
The Dauphin Fair has been in existence for well over 130 years, but Terron Stykalo with the Dauphin Ag Society says one thing that has not changed over time is their focus on the core values of the fair.
"Promoting agriculture, and keeping it a community-based event, and involving those in the community that we can. Of course, our directors and volunteers are all community based. So we try to focus on that and not let that get lost in the big hustle and bustle of the fair."
Chuckwagon and chariot races, the 4-H beef show, and the Saturday morning parade are some of the other highlights of this year's fair, which goes June 26th to 28th.

Yesterday was the grand re-opening of The Bloom 'n Bean in downtown Dauphin. But this time, there's a new shop within the shop: they've opened up a Sobr Market, a place where you can buy all sort of non-alcoholic beers, wines, and spirits.
Valerie McInnes, Sobr Market Franchise Owner, has been planning it for a while now, but decided to open the market sooner than she originally thought.
"I was thinking about doing this and didn't maybe think I was gonna do it until the fall, maybe after the summer, but then realized we're getting into the season where this type of beverage is more readily wanted, because of it being cottage country time, so here we are," said McInnes.
The company was started by a Winnipeg couple who saw a need for non-alcoholic spirits, and filled that need with a marketplace. McInnes originally found out about the company through her daughter, who works at one of their Winnipeg locations, and thought there was a need for it in the Parkland as well.
In recent years, there's been a big shift in how non-alcoholic beer, wine, and spirits are viewed. As McInnes explains it, they allow for anyone who can't or doesn't drink to still feel included in a society that pressures them to drink.
"Alcohol creates a culture and creates a community, and people who don't drink don't necessarily feel part of that community all the time. But this allows them to bring a can or a bottle with them that looks exactly like something you would get at the liquor store...I have a lot of expectant moms and nursing moms that come to see me that just want to enjoy their time with family, and as well, a large portion of my clientelle right now are individuals who for medical reasons can't drink alcohol," said McInnes.
If you're a little on the fence about non-alcoholic drinks that traditionally have alcohol, good news: Sobr Market allows taste testing for most of their bottled spirits. They'd rather you try it in-store and don't like it, than buy it and don't like it at home.
"At any time, most of our bottled spirits are open for people to come and taste test before they spend money on it. Our price points are very similar to what you would spend at the liquor store, but the quality of the product is there for the price point. But I don't want somebody buying a bottle of New Spirits Gin, and going home and going, oh, this isn't what I thought it was," said McInnes.
Looking at the future of Sobr Market in Dauphin, they'll be having non-alcoholic wine tasting nights, and will soon be starting wholesale distribution to restaurants in the area.

Sunday is the 2nd Annual Winnipegosis Pride Parade, and despite the weather, organizers plan to have it go rain or shine.
Cyndie Blythe, President of the 2026 Winnipegosis Pride Committee, said there's going to be a lot of things for people to do, including a new attraction sponsored by the municipality. And though the weather has been crazy the past few days, they've been able to work around hiccups with vendors and guests.
"We're very excited this year to announce the Mossey River Municipality sponsored photo booth, and that'll be decorated all in pride, and people can grab a prop, take a selfie, throw it on Facebook or Instagram...the weather has been a factor, and so we've had some moving targets on our vendors, but there will be some people there," said Blythe.
She said it's a great way to show that the municipality cares about and supports the Winnipegosis pride community. Photo booth aside, they'll have lots of other things, including food, vendors, family-friendly drag shows, and inspirational speakers. One of those speakers will be Blythe herself, sharing her story.
"My wife and I are each going to tell our stories, our personal stories, of how we came to be here and about growing up gay and all that," said Blythe.
Blythe wants to remind anyone thinking of showing up that it's not just for members of the Winnipegosis pride community: it's for everyone, no matter who you are.
"Coming to a pride festival, here or anywhere, does not make anybody gay, it is not meant to stigmatize anybody. It is our sincere hope that raising the visibility of 2SLGBTQ+ issues will reduce the stigma," said Blythe.
The festival goes on Sunday, starting at 11:00 AM. The parade is set to take place at 4:00 PM, with the day wrapping up at 5:00 PM.

Car enthusiasts will be flocking to Roblin on Saturday for the 11th Annual Rumble in Roblin classic car show and shine.
The event takes place along Main Street beginning at 3 PM, and is free to attend.
Organizer Keith Fast is expecting vintage cars from across Manitoba and Saskatchewan, including all makes and models.
"There are many different categories of vehicles that come to this car show. And, this year, I think there is actually a little over 20 awards. So there will be a lot of awards handed out, and we have participant bags made up for over 300 cars."
Last year, Fast says, they ran out of room along Main Street, as close to 300 vehicles took part.
Beside the car show, Roblin and District Chamber of Commerce is also planning a number of other activities, including a petting zoo, and a vendors' market from 2 until 7 at Tucker's General Store.

Canada's National Ukrainian Festival is seven weeks away, but the hype for this year's show will ramp up this weekend.
The official CNUF kickoff party is set for Saturday at Obsolete Brewing Company.
CNUF Third Vice President Cory Lafontaine says it is going to be a great event.
"What we like to do is give everybody is a little taste and a wee bit of sampling of what they can expect to see and hear at the festival this year."
Entertainment will be provided by the Friends band, and there will also be a bouncy castle, and food and CNUF merchandise being available.
The event will be outside in Obsolete Brewing Company's parking lot, and Lafontaine says they have developed a great partnership with OBC since moving the party there a few years ago.
"Instead of having to postpone or cancel the event because of rain, we thought it would be nice to have an alternative. So having this event at Obsolete Brewing Company, which is a great location downtown, everybody can enjoy it. And if we do have to move it indoors, we can do that with Obsolete. They have been a fantastic partner with us. As most people know, Obsolete is also responsible for making the official Canada's National Ukrainian Festival beer."
The kickoff party begins at 4 pm and is free to attend.
This year's festival runs July 31st to August 2nd at the Selo Ukraina site south of Dauphin.

Despite the weather, looking to get out and active this weekend? You're in luck, the province has announced that provincial park access will be free, and Manitobans will be able to fish without a license.
It'll run from Friday, June 12th, to Sunday, June 14th. Mike Moyes, Environment and Climate Change Minister, said it'll help give families something to do this weekend that won't break the bank.
"Making life more affordable for families is a priority for our government, and free park entry and license-free fishing are simple ways we can help Manitobans enjoy time together without added costs," said Moyes.
For provincial parks, access is free, but there are still charges for staying at provincial campgrounds. For fishing, you still need to follow any limits or regulations, especially following seasons and closures for specific bodies of water. It is high school graduation season, and Grandview will get the festivities kicked off for Parkland schools this weekend.
A total of 17 students will receive their diplomas in ceremonies set to begin at 2:30 Saturday afternoon in the Grandview Elementary gym.
A parade of the grads through Grandview will take place at 5, followed by a supper and safe grad.
Next weekend, no fewer than 9 local schools will honour their graduates.
Gilbert Plains, Ste Rose, Glenella, and Swan Valley Regional will all hold their grads on June 19, while Winnipegosis, McCreary. Alonsa, Goose Lake in Roblin, and Dauphin Regional will all have their ceremonies on the 20th.
