The driver of a Nissan Rogue now faces charges under the Highway Traffic Act for proceeding before it is safe to do so.
On Monday at 12:51 p.m., Swan River RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Main Street in Swan River. A westbound Mazda CX-9 struck the Rogue after it pulled into its path.
The Mazda driver tried to brake to avoid the collision, but was unable to do so.
No injuries were reported.

Construction is now complete, and the Swan Valley School Division is ready to show off the new Culture Arts Centre and Multi-Purpose room at Swan Valley Regional Secondary School.
The project took over two years to complete, and included consultation with a number of First Nations groups in Swan Valley, as well as students of SVRSS.
SVSD Board Chair Gary Wowchuk says they now have a state of the art facility that allows them to do a number of things.
"It will allow us to host concerts of all types. We have our drama group at the high school and they host plays quite often, which they can now hold here. Also, band concerts. And, the cultural aspect of it, as well. We have a number of Indigenous design elements. And, the whole idea of that was partly to give our Indigenous students a place that they can identify with and feel welcome."
Wowchuk also sees it playing host to community events such as conferences and film festivals.
An official grand opening of the Centre will take place this Saturday, beginning at 11 AM, which will be followed by tours of the facility.

Renovations are now complete, and a special ceremony was held last Thursday to mark the official re-opening of the Dauphin Courthouse.
A number of Provincial Ministers were in attendance at the opening, including Justice Minister Matt Wiebe, and Agriculture Minister & Dauphin MLA Ron Kostyshyn.
He says the renovations to the facility were much needed.
"When it comes to renovations of an existing building, especially a historical building. And, I think, the intent was to keep the exterior because the building is well known, and it is a beautiful structure. But, the renovations were long overdue, and the courtrooms look excellent for security purposes, which means a lot to the sheriffs and the corrections officers and the judges and everybody else."
Kostyshyn has also been heavily involved as of late in consultations on a new justice facility for Dauphin.
Construction of that is expected to begin later this year.

It's back to the drawing board for the Town of Swan River and Manitoba Transportation with regards to improvements to the intersection of Highways 10 and 83.
Originally, a roundabout was proposed for that intersection.
In 2022, the province stated they would not proceed with an option involving turning lights, unless concrete medians were also included.
Public consultation was called for, which included a meeting held on December 16th in Swan River.
A majority of the input received at that meeting did not support a roundabout option at that intersection, an opinion that Swan River Town Council now agrees with and informed the province of this morning.
The province has committed to exploring other solutions, including the possibility of implementing a timing sequence that would allow left turns from the intersection while holding back oncoming traffic, without requiring a median.

Swan River RCMP are asking for the public's help in locating a missing woman from the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.
Nineteen-year-old Rhoda Brass hasn't been in contact with family members since December 29th, and was last seen with a friend on January 6th at a shack-like structure that has since burned down.
She's described as being 5’2”, with short black hair.

A 21-year-old Dauphin man faces several charges following a break in to a home on 5th avenue NW.
Dauphin RCMP say the incident took place around 5:15 Thursday morning.
Mounties arrived on scene to find a suspect leaving the home.
After a brief altercation, the suspect was taken into custody.
One officer did suffer minor injuries as a result of the scuffle.
Jacob Vermeylen was charged with break and enter, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer.
He was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

The province has announced that it has increased outflow from the Shellmouth Reservoir, as part of normal operations to draw down reservoir levels in preparation for spring run-off from the upper Assiniboine River.
The outflow has jumped to 400 cubic feet per second from its previous level of 300 cfs.
The increase will also result in a half-foot increase in water levels on the Assiniboine River from Shellmouth to Brandon., but the increase is expected to diminish as the river reaches Winnipeg.

RCMP in Yorkton are looking for a prisoner that has escaped the White Spruce Training Centre.
They say Robert Racine left the facility late on the morning of January 14th, and was last seen on Ball Road in Yorkton at around 11:35 that morning.
The 57-yrear-old, who is described as being 6-feet tall and 200 pounds with blue eyes, now faces one count of being unlawfully at large.
He is said to have connections in the Regina and Brandon areas, but attempts to find him have not turned up anything so far.

Time is running out to purchase weekend passes for Canada's National Ukrainian Festival at the early bird pricing.
CNUF President Kayla Gillis says the early bird pricing remains in effect until only January 31st.
"Right now, weekend passes are $140, and they will be going up to $165 as of February 1st."
The festivall runs July 31st to August 2nd at the Selo Ukraina Site.
Cory LaFontaine with the CNUF board says it is an incredible deal.
"What people don't realize, especially first timers, is that at other festivals, you get onto the grounds and they will charge you extra money for the shows. Here it is a one-pay gate for the festival. So you pay one price and you get the opportunity to see the Zabavas, the grandstand shows. Everything is included in that one pay gate. A financial expert says it is never too early or too late for farmers to be having discussions with their famiy members about succession plans for their farm.
Sherrie Volk with IG Wealth Management says succession planning is not a one size fit all project, and because of that discussing it can be complicated .
"There are tax strategies and ownership transfers. Is it an inter-generational transfer or just the sale of a business. There are family dynamics, legacy planning, creating retirement income for you. There are so many topics that it can become quite overwhelming just to look at that and say "Okay, herte is my succession plan."

Concerns over staffing levels in the emergency department of the Swan Valley Health Centre are being raised by the province's largest nurses union.
In a post on their Facebook page, the Manitoba Nurses Union says they've been informed that the emergency department in Swan River is operating with a 57% vacancy rate, while other units in the facility are sitting at 30% vacancy.
The post added that nurses are being pulled from other units without the training or experience needed for emergency care, and are being placed in situations where they feel unsafe, unsupported, and fearful for their licences and their patients.
There have also been reports to the MNU that management is considering closing operating rooms and chemotherapy services in order to support the ER, and closing inpatient beds to redirect nurses to emergency care.
