The Snowmobilers of Manitoba is a non-profit organization representing 53 snowmobiling clubs.
Each club maintain and grooms over 13,000 kilometres of Manitoba's scenic trails. Around for more than 30 years, the Dauphin & District Snowmobile Club grooms and maintains over 400 kilometres of trails in the area.
They stretch from Dauphin to Pine River to Waterhen to around the RM of Dauphin, and everything in between. A core group of members are very appreciated around the region for keeping our trails beautifully maintained throughout the winter.
"Our goal is to make the trails safe by putting up signage as much as we can," said Dominic Gamache. "Using our equipment to make a nice groomed trail that is smooth so it's safe for people to ride on. That's our goal here in the area."
While it took longer than in recent years to get snow, it's here, and it's here to stay for the next few months. That's a treat for snowmobilers in the region.
"We have lots of diversity when it comes to trails. We've got bush trails in our park line to the rail bed that connects the communities," continued Gamache. "There are a ton of places you can see on a snowmobile that you'll never see with any other mode of transportation. You get to see lots of beautiful Manitoba wilderness, that's for sure."
The Snowmobilers of Manitoba recently held its annual awards banquet. It was a momentous year as they celebrated 50 years of maintaining and grooming trails around the province. 53 clubs, and the Dauphin & District Snowmobile Club was on top.
At the banquet, they were named the Outstanding Club for 2025.
"Yeah, you know, that's a huge honour. We are honoured to have received that award," commented Gamache. "To get this amongst 53 clubs in Manitoba that do outstanding work is a massive accomplishment. That's credit to our members, volunteers, land owners, and businesses. It was a little bit unexpected, but we were truly honoured to have received the award."
On Friday, the club will be hosting an open house meeting at the Mossey River Inn in Winnipegosis. There will be pizza served at 6:00 and a meeting to follow.
"We invite anyone interested in snowmobiling to attend this at the Mossey River Inn," ended Gamache. "We're always looking for youth in the area. That would be a great place to come check it out and see what we're all about."
