Some Dauphin homeowners have been sharing their displeasure with their recent water bills.
In multiple cases, residents have shared that their water bills have at least doubled.
David Bosiak, Mayor of Dauphin, says a four percent increase came into effect in July. He said once the water hits your meter, any increase in cost is related to usage.
"So that may be stuff that people aren't even aware of; it could be a drippy pipe in the basement that you're not aware of," said Bosiak. "The biggest culprit is leaky toilets, ones that run continuously. That will drastically increase water usage without you knowing it."
Bosiak said there will be rate increases as the lagoon costs come online in the next year and two years down the road.
"The City regularly applies to the Public Utilities Board for rate increases. The most recent was four percent in July," ended Bosiak. "If anyone has an increase in their water bill that is higher than that, it's likely due to them using more water than they're typically using."
If your water bill has increased, look downstairs for any pipes that could leak, and check your toilet to see if it continuously runs.
