Tuesday's Throne Speech confirmed what has long been rumored ... shovels will hit the ground in 2026 for Dauphin's new correctional facility and justice centre.
The announcement was "music to the ears" for Dauphin Mayor Dave Bosiak.
"There have been consultations taking place for over a year now, and to get actual confirmation that they are moving ahead with the project is very good news for us. So, we were very pleased overall with the tone and tenor of the Throne Speech, but in particular the acknowlwdgement that the justice centre would be turning sod next year."
Bosiak says there are a number of positives to this facility.
Besides the sheer number of jobs it'll bring to our city, Bosiak says the whole oncept of it being more than just a jail will be a model for the development of future facilities like this in the province.
