The Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre is reminding you of the potentially hazardous conditions on rivers, lakes, and drainage ditches around the province.
While the ice may appear normal, it can be very thin. As a result, it may not support people or heavy objects such as snowmobiles and vehicles. Thickness is inconsistent and unpredictable due to the recent temperature fluctuations.
It's recommended that you avoid walking, skating, skiing, sledding, or snowmobiling on rivers, lakes, floodways, retention ponds, or drainage ditches.
If you live near a waterway, you should take additional precautions to keep children and pets off the ice.
