It's a project that, once complete, will help serve those who require emergency department services better in the Interlake.
The Manitoba government is moving forward with the construction of the emergency department at the E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale.
Candace Blahey is the Director of Health Services, Acute Care, at the Interlake–Eastern Regional Health Authority.
"This is phenomenal, absolute phenomenal news for Eriksdale," said Blahey. "This is something that they've been needing and wanting for many years. The voices of community members, First Nations partners, and Eriksdale hospital staff have all been instrumental in the design process for this redevelopment. The continued support and advocacy have been so greatly appreciated. We're pretty excited."
The $ 8.6 million project, which includes site setup, minor demolition, and safety measures, is expected to begin in February.
The redevelopment project will enhance operational workflows, increase emergency treatment capacity within the existing footprint, and improve patient privacy and safety.
More than 140 community members participated in surveys or attended the March 2025 open house to help shape the design.
"There will be a dedicated spot for security, enhanced workspaces for the nurses," ended Blahey. "We're all really looking forward to seeing how this plays out. There is a lot of excitement happening on Highway 6, that's for sure."
Renovations will modernize inpatient rooms, enhance staff work areas, and create dedicated areas for families and crisis intervention with technology-support enhancements.
These upgrades will support long-term service stabilization and create a more functional, future-ready environment for emergency care in the region.
