Assiniboine College will offer a new primary care paramedic course, starting in 2027, here in Dauphin.
The first cohort will have 16 spots and be offered at Assiniboine’s Parkland campus in Dauphin next January
Parkland Campus Director Carol Stewart says they are extremely grateful to be the first location for this program.
"I think that it reflects, first of all, that there is a significant need for paramedics in this area. And the college prides itself on being responsive, and acting on those calls for action. So we are certainly ready and excited here."
Stewart says response to the program has already been overwhelming.
"We currently have an interest list of more than 100 people, which really demonstrates the demand for this type of training, particularly in our region. When applications do open, we will be sure to contact every single person on that list to give them all of the details."
A second cohort with the same number of seats will start at a different location in Western Manitoba later next year.
The provincial government is providing funding to the college for the program.
