The heat is here.
The question is, how long will it stay? Temperatures in the 30s are expected through early next week. Then things cool down a bit with temperatures in the high teens.
The Weather Network has released its three-month outlook for summer, and it could be a bit of a mixed bag, according to Michael Carter, a meteorologist with the Weather Network.
"I think it's an optimistic forecast, for sure," said Carter. "Certainly some changeability. If you don't like the pattern this week, give it a couple of days, and it will likely change. It's not going to be a summer where you're locked in. Overall, it looks to be a comfortable summer. A year most folks should be able to get out and enjoy the summer."
Typically, temperatures range from 21 to 26 celcius.
If you love the extreme heat, it's been a great week for you. When spending time outside in extreme heat, drink plenty of water, limit your time in direct sunlight, and wear loose, breathable clothing. It's recommended to wear light-coloured clothing.
When it comes to extreme heat moving forward, Carter says it's a wait-and-see.
"This year we don't really see that fortunately as a super big concern, extended heat waves," continued Carter. "We will get heat, but it will come in bursts. You'll get a couple of hot days and then some relief. You'll have cold fronts at times and comfortable days. It's not a major concern for us this summer when it comes to extreme heatwaves."

As for precipitation, June is one of the wettest months. On average, 75 to 100 mm of rain falls throughout June.
This varies from area to area. Carter says that trend needs to continue.
"Otherwise, we may be tipping towards a dry season. We do have a risk of drier conditions for this summer," ended Carter. "The potential for that below normal precipitation regime to set up. If that happens, it does feed back on itself; you can get more heat, and increase the risks of wildfires, wildfire smoke, and other concerns that can creep up."
So it's safe to say that June could be very telling on what kind of summer we will get here in the Parkland.
