The City of Dauphin is urging all residents to immediately reduce water use, as Dauphin's wastewater system has reached capacity.
Darrell Aitken, Director of Public Works, said though they can't control the amount of rain entering the system, controlling what they can will definitely help reduce strain on the system.
"We're just asking residents to help us by postponing any laundry, or any water-intensive activities, delaying use of dishwashers...over the next few hours, we'd appreciate cooperation from our residents, I know everybody's doing their part," said Aitken.
All lift stations and pumps are working as intended, but can't keep up with the amount of water entering the system.
Residents are asked to reduce all water use until further notice. That includes postponing laundry, dishwashing, and other water-intensive tasks, and limiting the use of showers, sinks, and toilets.
As the heavy rainfall event continues, the City of Dauphin is closely monitoring the situation, and will provide updates as conditions change.
