Emergency Department services will reopen in Dauphin on Monday, September 7.
The temporary emergency department will operate on the main floor of Dauphin Regional Health Centre, using temporary power, water and other infrastructure while restoration work continues in other areas of the hospital.
When it opens, the temporary emergency department will provide emergency services 24-7. A mobile CT unit will be up and running within several weeks.
Teams continue around-the-clock work to ensure every system - from ventilation and power to patient care spaces - is ready to support the community of Dauphin and surrounding areas safely.
"It's a huge amount of work to get the electrical, diagnostics, and treatment spaces so that if you show up, 'God forbid,' you have an emergency, and need that healthcare," said Premier Wab Kinew. "You show up, and you're going to get your vitals taken by a nurse, assessed by a physician, and they'll be able to do what is needed to take care of you."
Other health services will continue to be provided in nearby sites while restoration work progresses. Dialysis patients are currently receiving care in Brandon, Russell, Swan River and Ashern; chemotherapy is being provided in Brandon, and labour and delivery services are available in Neepawa and Brandon.
Transportation supports remain available for patients who need to travel for dialysis and chemotherapy. You can contact the Dauphin Handi-van if you require transportation.
The Community Health Services building attached to Dauphin Regional Health Centre will continue to provide outpatient community care, including IV therapy.
Walk-in diagnostic services temporarily being provided at the provincial building in Dauphin will also be moved back to the Dauphin Regional Health Centre.
"We know how important healthcare is. We know how hard the staff has been working at other facilities," said Kinew. "Nurses travelling. We're going to work on the needs for the nurses so they get the travel compensation. We will make sure the surgeons are busy so that we don't lose anyone through this process."
Roblin Update:
Prairie Mountain Health also said the Emergency Department at the Roblin Health Centre will be closed all of September. The closure is due to staff shortages, but PMH says this is subject to change.
