Swan River MLA Rick Wowchuk says he is disappointed that he was not allowed to take part in the official grand opening of a Culture Arts Centre at Swan Valley Regional Secondary School.
Wowchuk says he received a call at around 9 pm Friday night from his brother Gary - who is chair of the Swan Valley School Division - informing him that the Premier's office had asked that Rick not be allowed to speak at Saturday's event.
Rick admits that was a very awkward conversation.
"I am sure he felt quite uncomfortable being the deliverer of that news. But yet, I did not expect anything different from this Premier. Time and time again, we witness in the house this type of behaviour. He always talks about One Manitoba, but that it is the furthest thing that we are seeing."
Premier Wab Kinew was in Swan River for the opening and spoke at the event.
Besides being excluded from an event within his home riding, Wowchuk was also sad to be excluded from an event at a facility that is very close to him.
"Being an educator in that school for 25 years. And also, I am an alumni of the first ever graduating class at that school. Yes, I have never heard of anything quite like that,believe me."
Wowchuk also did a lot of the lobbying for the funding for this project, which was actually approved by the former Conservative government in 2023.

The Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit is set to help families from coast to coast.
Prime Minister Mark Carney made the announcement, which will boost the amount Canadians get on their GST payments. If you receive GST, the payments will increase by 25 per cent over the next five years. It'll include a one-time top-up of 50 per cent this June.
A family of four will receive up to $1,890 this year with the increases, compared to $1,100.
A single person will receive $950 this year compared to $540.

The province is launching a review into the government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the health minister says the analysis will be limited because people have moved on from the global health crisis.
Manitoba registered the second highest COVID-19 death rate among all of the provinces, behind only Quebec, and sent 57 intensive care patients to other provinces because its health-care facilities didn't have room to care for them.
Uzooma Asagwara says Manitobans don't want them to go back and debate the details of the pandemic, adding they want us to focus on learning the lessons and charting a path forward that prioritizes their safety, resilience and being prepared.
The review will be handled internally by the provincial Health Department, and will involve key health-care leaders, like Chief Provincial Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin, and outline ways Manitoba can better prepare for future public health.
It is expected to be wrapped up by the end of the year.

A 55-year-old man has died at a construction site in western Manitoba.
RCMP say they responded to a call Wednesday about a workplace accident involving a skid steer near Hamiota.
Officers were told the driver accidentally backed the vehicle into a deep hole that had been dug.
Mounties are not releasing more details and say the man’s death was confirmed at the scene.
Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety is also investigating.

The Premier is set to visit the City of Sunshine today.
Wab Kinew will be among the many in attendance at tonight's Dauphin Kings Ukrainian Night, as the Kings will host the Niverville Nighthawks.
Dauphin MLA Ron Kostyshyn says the premier is very excited to be attending this event.
"He says there are a number of communities that he loves to go to, as well as a number of events. He adds the Ukrainian Night with the Dauphin Kings sits so high on his priority post that he can attend. He just loves coming to Dauphin."
Besides the game, the night will also include Ukrainian Music, vendors, and giveaways.
Tickets are just $5 each and are available at the Credit Union Place box office until game time, or until the game sells out.

Winnipegosis RCMP have arrested two suspects on drug trafficking and weapons possession charges.
A 33-year-old male and a 27-year-old female were charged after officers executed a search warrant at their home.
Over 50 grams of cocaine, $22,000 in cash, and a weapon have been seized from the Camperville home.
The names of the suspects have yet to be released
Both have been released to later appear in court

A 34-year-old man from Swan River faces several charges after being discovered with a stolen TV.
The incident happened late Wednesday night near a retirement home on Ida Street in Dauphin.
An officer on patrol spotted the man carrying the TV and eventually arrested him when he tried to hide behind a shed, recovering a weapon during the arrest.
A subsequent investigation at the retirement home found that a TV had been ripped from the wall stand, with drug paraphernalia also being found at the scene.
The suspect faces charges that include mischief and theft under five grand, possession of a weapon, and failing to comply witha probatoin order.

Robert Burns was born on January 25, 1759, near the Scottish village of Alloway.
He was a poet and songwriter famous for his ability to portray the essence of Scottish common life. He wrote about everyday life, politics, love, and what he believed people thought, but couldn't say.
Robert died at the age of 37, but he remains one of the most celebrated figures in Scottish culture. Almost every year since 1907, the City of Dauphin has celebrated its Scottish heritage with Robbie Burns Night.
This year, it's back on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Dauphin Legion, Kate Storey told CKDM NewsNow.
"That's right, it's the longest-running celebration in Dauphin," she said. "We are proud of our Scottish heritage. Robbie Burns is a celebration that has held the world over in Scotland, and by people whose heritage is Scottish."
Dauphin's celebration features performances by the Dauphin Pipe Band, Highland Dancers, a Word about Burns, the traditional recital of the 'Address to the Haggis', and a lunch of Scottish foods, including Haggis, scones and shortbread.
Storey is a member of the Dauphin Legion Pipe Band and is looking forward to performing and celebrating with the community.
"We're very excited to be hosting. Our band is now expanding," she ended. "We have 14 regular members, and another eight beginners. This is going to be quite a night."
Admission to the event is free. There will be a silver collection at the door. Kate thanks the community for their support over the years, and looks forward to seeing you for this year's celebration on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Dauphin Legion.

It's one of the marquee events on the Dauphin Kings schedule.
Ukrainian Night. It goes down on Saturday night at Credit Union Place. The Kings, who have lost two of their last three games, welcome the second-ranked nationally, Niverville Nighthawks to town.
Niverville is 34-2-1 entering the game. One of their regulation losses was against Dauphin.
Christian Laughland with the Kings confirmed a special guest will be in attendance.
"I just got off the phone with the Office of the Premier. Wab Kinew will be one of the many in the building, which is very exciting," said Laughland. "Ukrainian Night is always a great night. We're looking forward to this year."
There will be vendors on the concourse. Cory 'Laffy' Lafontaine will be giving out prizes throughout the game.
"There will be player introductions and a light show," added Laughland. "Stephen Jaddock is coming back, and we can't thank him enough for being a part of it. There will be giveaways. There will be a band. So much is going on, you don't want to miss this."
Tickets cost only $5. You can get yours at the CNUF office inside the Dauphin Marketplace Mall. You can also purchase tickets at the Speedy Glass South Ticket Office inside Credit Union Place. As of Thursday morning, more than 1,200 tickets have already been sold.
That's expected to skyrocket leading up to puck drop on Saturday. It's a game that will see the Kings looking to get back on track against the league leaders.
If you haven't got your tickets yet, now is the time.
"You don't want to be a part of that massive line out the door of people getting tickets last minute," ended Laughland. "This game has sold out in the past. Once we hit that capacity, we have to cut it off. It's as simple as that, so don't wait any longer."
Last year, Ukrainian Night saw 2,112 fans pack the stands. In the last three Ukrainian Nights combined, there have been 6,049 fans.

Several projects in the Parkland are getting a boost through Fusion Credit Union's Full Circle Fund.
The fund supports initiatives that enhance quality of life, strengthen community connections and create lasting impact where members live, work and do business.
The Roblin Children's Centre is receiving $25,000 towards their Playground Renewal and Safety Enhancement Project, while $10,000 is being granted to the Rossburn Ag Society for grounds and building upgrades.
The Municipality of Russell-Binscarth, is receiving $5,000 for renovations to the community hall. Dauphin Minor Baseball is getting $5,000 for diamond improvements. The Camperville Community Council is getting $2,500 for their Community Playground Project, and the Gilbert Plains Elementary School is receiving $3,000 for renovation to its library.
The Kids First Early Learning Centre in Inglis will receive $2,000 for building maintenance, while Goose Lake High School in Roblin gets $2,500 for Reconciliation Park. The Roblin Rec Wolves Hockey are receiving $5,000 for new jerseys.
In Russell, Passion4Paws Rescue is getting $1,000 for new kennel fences.
