The Dauphin Kings battled back a number of times, but couldn't squeeze the extra point out of the Winnipeg Blues Sunday night in a 6-5 shootout loss at Credit Union Place.
The loss in the breakaway contest is Dauphin's first this year. Entering the night the Kings were one of two teams that had yet to go to a shootout, the other is the Virden Oil Capitals.
In this contest the Kings showed much better than they did in Friday's 5-0 loss to the Winkler Flyers. The Kings started very well, scoring three of the game's first four goals. Winnipeg battled back, however, after gaining a five minute power play and a full two minute man advantage to go along with it. Dauphin came out of that scenario down 4-3. The Kings' first three goals came off the sticks of Kirklan Lycar (21), Brandon Young (5) and Trevor Kavanaugh (8).
