People are still buzzing about what went down at the Gilbert Plains Country Club on Saturday. Ryan Rauliuk and Ruff's Furniture came together to host a Ukrainian golf tournament in support of the Parkland Ukrainian Family Fund.
A sold-out event featured 152 golfers hitting the links in a four-person scramble. There was no official winner as the scorecards didn't matter. Following play, golfers had the chance to enjoy a great dinner inside the new event centre and prizes were also handed out.
A few days following the event, Ryan wants to thank each and every player as well as every single sponsor.
"It was awesome, above and beyond my expectations," said Rauliuk. "It was overwhelming, it was a wild and crazy day where things went so well. I don't know what the Ukrainian culture does to people but everyone was so happy, it was a tremendous day."
A definite highlight of the day was the cossacks who were out in full force which includes several horses running around the course. They put on a show and so many people loved seeing them on the course.
"It's so unique, that's just something you won't see on another golf course, only in Gilbert Plains," ended Rauliuk.
Rauliuk wasn't able to confirm how much money was raised; however, he did say he expects the number to be above his expectation and a formal presentation to hand the money over to the Parkland Ukrainian Family Fund will be done in the coming weeks. He also confirmed that he will host another tournament next summer.
