It is a time of year when youth cringe while parents rejoice.
The 2025-26 school year is set to begin in early September, with most students returning to classes on September 4th.
Mountain View School Division Superintendent Suzanne Cottyn is excited for the new year to begin.
Cottyn says there are a few changes within MVSD this year, highlighted by the appointment of Gord Wood as a new Assistant Superintendent.
"We are looking forward to working together as a team to serve all of our schools. We have a few principals relocating this year, so there will be some principals in some of our buildings and some who have moved from one building to another. So I know they are excited to start their journey in supporting their school communities."
Teachers are already in their classrooms beginning preparations for the coming year, and Cottyn says they will be sitting down with principals this week to do some pre-planning.
Some schools may have a staggered start to the school year, and Cottyn suggests parents contact their child's school or the MVSD website to find the correct opening day.
Cottyn also wants to remind motorists that they should start getting back into the habit of slowing down near schools.
