Eleanor Snitka has been a pillar of the Dauphin community for close to 50 years.
She arrived in 1978 to become a cosmetology teacher within the then-Dauphin-Ochre School Division.
Following her retirement from teaching in 2000, Eleanor embarked on a 25-year career as a peer supporter for individuals with mental health and addiction issues.
Now, having just celebrated her 80th birthday, Eleanor has decided the time is right to step away from work life.
"I always said that I would work as long as I am healthy. Well, I still am healthy, but at that age, it is time. I worked for 62 years, taking a little time off to have two babies and to go to school. But I have worked for a long time, and I think it is time to look out for me."
Local residents will have the chance to congratulate Eleanor and celebrate the impact she has had on the community this Saturday afternoon at the Watson Art Centre.
