Dauphin MLA Ron Kostyshyn is back in the Parkland after a busy month on the road.
The Manitoba Agriculture minister began the month meeting with members of the pork industry in Iowa, which imports two million weanling pigs from Manitoba on an annual basis.
Considering the on-going threats of tariffs between the two countries, Kostyshyn says any chance to talk to members of the U-S Agriculture industry is important.
"When you have a cchance to communicate with Iowa Pork Producers, they are the ones that are going to do the lobbying with President Trump on the importance that the trade provides economic spinoff for those individuals. And thee challenges that if the tariffs become a concern, the two-million weenling pigs that they are going to have to find eventually to replace whatever Manitoba can not do. I think it would really be a concern to the Iowa pork industry."
Kostyshyn then joined several Manitoba MLAs at the Mid-Western Legislative Conference in Saskatoon.
Representatives from the other prairie provinces and 11 U-S states also attended the gathering to discuss policy, particularly around North American Energy Security.
