The province is launching a review into the government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the health minister says the analysis will be limited because people have moved on from the global health crisis.
Manitoba registered the second highest COVID-19 death rate among all of the provinces, behind only Quebec, and sent 57 intensive care patients to other provinces because its health-care facilities didn't have room to care for them.
Uzooma Asagwara says Manitobans don't want them to go back and debate the details of the pandemic, adding they want us to focus on learning the lessons and charting a path forward that prioritizes their safety, resilience and being prepared.
The review will be handled internally by the provincial Health Department, and will involve key health-care leaders, like Chief Provincial Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin, and outline ways Manitoba can better prepare for future public health.
It is expected to be wrapped up by the end of the year.
