The Pine Creek First Nation held their First Annual Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, and in the words of Volunteer and Band Councilor Kevin McKay, it went perfect.
"The day was perfect. It went smooth, everything was good, all our volunteers were out here bright and early, 7:00 AM. Holes were pre-drilled Friday evening so that wasn't an issue," said McKay.
He praised the volunteers and staff involved in organizing the derby, saying they played a large part.
"The derby was good. It was a huge success thanks to all the volunteers, our staff, our fishing committee, everyone did their part," said McKay.
He also said though the derby went well, there's only one major change they plan for next year: bigger cash prizes.
"The only changes we're going to make for next year is we're going to be bigger and better. Prizes are going to be bigger and better, the cash prizes," said McKay.
Even though the next Pine Creek First Nation Annual Ice Fishing Derby is a year away, it's looking like it'll catch on quick.
