The Dauphin Public Library aims to be a place full of fun this spring break. They're hosting activities for kids Tuesday through Thursday.
Librarian Trent Pachkowski said though there's no cost for any of the activities, they ask parents to sign up their kids to make sure they aren't overbooked.
"The main 3 that we're running are happening tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday, all 3 programs are running 1:30 to 3:00, we do ask parents to sign up their kids beforehand because we are limiting the space to 20 kids per event...everything here is free. There is no charge, no cost, we handle all the supplies, just sign up and [kids] can participate," said Pachkowski.
The events the library is running this week include a Monster Melt, where kids can make a monster and watch it melt into a slurry of corn starch and water, Monster Art, where kids can use art supplies to make their own monsters, and monster-themed mini golf Pachkowski called Goblin Golf. The theme of this week's activities is pretty unique, and Pachkowski said that's by design.
"We just were looking for something different to do from the usual activites here at the library during spring break, and we just figured something monster themed would be a bit of a nice change of pace, we found these 3 activites for kids to do," said Pachkowski.
He also said even with the fun activities planned, the important thing is giving kids something to do during spring break that gets them out and about.
"Running events here for kids allows them to get out of the house, away from screens, interact with other kids around their age, possibly make new friends, and just be somewhere other than sitting at home during spring break while their parents are out at work or whatever the case may be. Gives them something local to do instead of having to travel very far," said Pachkowski.
