At 3:15 PM on Monday, the Dauphin Fire Department responded to a residential fire on 4th Ave. NE.
After extinguishing the fire and locating 2 pets still inside, the pets were given to their owners, who rushed them to the veterinarian for smoke inhalation.
The fire department determined the cause of the fire was unattended cooking, which according to the National Fire Protection Associaton, is the leading cause of fires.
The Dauphin Fire Department would like to remind people to stay present while cooking, and to turn off appliances when you leave the room.
