Bowling, tug of war, musical chairs, marshmallows, and hot dogs around the fire.
It was a beautiful thing, and those were some of the fan favourites. Toss in some spaghetti and pizza.
21 students from Gilbert Plains Collegiate completed a 30-hour no phones/no screens challenge sleepover earlier this week.
This was the third year of this challenge. The students wanted to bring awareness to how your mental health can be affected by spending lots of time on your phone and in front of a screen. The students put their phones away for 30 hours, and it's turned out to be a highlight for many.
The students ranged from grades nine to 12.
Aynslee Beckley was one of the students taking part. She said it was awesome and will go down as one of the best highlights of her time in high school.
"Everybody really enjoyed the bowling. There were other activities, like pool and axe-throwing," said Beckley. "It showed our students that you don't always need to hang out only with your friend group. You can spend time with others as well."
The challenge began at 9:00 a.m. on Monday and ended at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Beckley praises the students at the school, saying they're so laid-back, making it enjoyable to hang out with people you don't normally hang out with.
The 21 students who took part are about a third of the entire school's population.
"I was so surprised that everyone came out," ended Beckley. "All of the grade nines were so excited to hear about it and participate. The kids in grade eight are so excited to come to high school so they can take part next year."
Planning for year four next year is already underway.
