The City of Dauphin has brought back their Adopt-a-Planter program for this summer.
The program lets residents, businesses or groups sponsor one of the concrete planters on Main Street, as part of the City's ongoing beautification efforts. Deputy City Manager Lisa Gaudet said the council cares very deeply about making Dauphin an eye-catching place, for residents and visitors alike.
"[The program] was created by the City Beautification Advisory Committee, after they identified that many of the planters weren't being utilized, and the goal is really to bring more colour, vibrancy, and community pride to downtown Dauphin...when people see flowers, colour, and well-maintained public spaces, it creates a more poisitve atmosphere for residents, visitors, and local businesses, so programs like this encourage community involvment and give people a sense of ownership in the appearance of the city," said Gaudet.
Planters aside, Gaudet said the Beautification Advisory Committee is out around town for a variety of reasons, and their plans are well underway for this year's beautification efforts. Coming up soon is Dauphin's Community-wide Yard Sale, which the Beautification Advisory Committee has a hand in.
"We have our Bloom Crew out there, they'll be continuing with our program to beautify the city with flowers throughout the city...the City Beautification Advisory Committee is also invovled in the Community-wide Yard Sale, so that initiative will be happening at the end of May," said Gaudet.
