On January 28, 2022, Ryan Joseph Nepinak of Gilbert Plains was found unresponsive in his cell at the Winnipeg Remand Centre. He was later pronounced deceased.
The chief medical examiner has now called for an inquest. An inquest explores the circumstances and events leading to deaths to find out what, if anything, might be done to prevent similar deaths in the future.
The standing hearing will be held July 20 at 10:00 a.m. in courtroom 402 at the Manitoba Law Courts Complex, 408 York Ave., Winnipeg.
Ahead of that, a judge will decide who can take part in the process and question witnesses. Individuals and/or groups may apply.
