Manitoba drivers are being warned about a new scam text falsely claiming to be connected to Manitoba Public Insurance.
The fraudulent messages tell recipients their MPI driving record is under “active compliance review” over an unresolved matter requiring “immediate attention.”
The text then directs people to a fake website demanding payment for an alleged speeding fine.
MPI says it never asks customers to provide personal or financial information through text messages or email.
Manitobans receiving the messages are being urged not to click any links or respond to the sender.
