Everything was set to go for installation of a new culvert pipe on Road 156 to the west of PR 362, but now one key part is missing: the pipe!
RM of Dauphin Reeve Ernie Sirski was baffled by the theft.
"The reality is, why would somebody steal a culvert? And what are they gonna do with it?" said Sirski.
It's a surprising theft for sure, one that's far from typical. Sirski said replacing the culvert shouldn't be too big of an issue, but the effects of this theft are pretty annoying for both the RM and its' residents.
"We have extra ones sitting in the yard so I don't think that's gonna be the big issue, it's the inconvenience that's caused by it, that's the first thing, so now all of a sudden we've got to send someone out with another pipe to get down to the site...it's a few hundred dollars that we've got to spend again in our budget, that all affects the taxes we have to charge, so it's a combination of things," said Sirski.
Sirski wants to remind people that when you see things like this, don't be afraid to report it!
"The message we want to get out is if people see things like this, please report them. Report them to the office, report them to the RCMP, not many people would drive around with a culvert in the back of their truck, let's put it that way," said Sirski.
The project is now facing a slight delay, for obvious reasons, but is still expected to be complete soon.
