For the next 2 weeks, the Dauphin Friendship Centre is holding a scavenger hunt designed to help families connect while they explore Dauphin.
"March 2nd to March 16th, it's Monday through Friday only, and the daily hints will be posted at 4:00 PM on the Dauphin Friendship Centre Facebook page," said Events Coordinator Jarri Thompson.
Thompson said the scavenger hunt isn't for nothing: if you find a coin, you can be entered into a draw for a sweet prize.
"Once a person finds the gold coin, they can bring it on back to the Friendship Centre, and they get entered into a draw to win our Pot of Gold," said Thompson.
Thompson also said the riddles for each day aren't going to be random.
"Each riddle is going to be sentimental to the Friendship Centre, it's going to have ties to our partners, events that [the Friendship Centre has] hosted or co-hosted," said Thompson.

We're now over a week away from Dauphin Ag Society's Farm Outlook 2026.
The one-day Ag conference is set for March 10th at Parkland Rec Complex.
Jon Driedger, of Left Field Commodity Research, will open the day with a presentation entitled "Charting a Path for 2026 Grain Marketing."
"From a market outlook perspective, of course it is very early. We do not know what farmers are going to put into the ground, as we are still a few months away from seeding. Of course, weather, we do not know, and yet farmers need to be planning in terms of a marketing perspective, and how do we navigate this."
Among the areas he'll look at include what the current situation is in the markets, yields, exports, and policy issues with key trading partners.
Admission for Farm Outlook is $20, which includes lunch.

The Coldest Night of the Year Fundraiser Walk took place at Dauphin Friendship Centre on Saturday, and raised lots of money for a good cause.
The Centre raised $33,350 for their Food for Thought program, which was 133% of their goal. When she found out, Events Coordinator Jarri Thompson was floored.
"I'm amazed. I am still in shock, I can't believe that we've surpassed our goal by so much," said Thompson.
Despite the cold weather on Saturday, Thompson said walkers showed up in droves and had a good time raising money.
"It was a little chilly. We did have some walkers come back with rosy red cheeks, but they were still happy, they were very supportive of the cause. Just a huge thank you to the community. We know times are a little tough right now, especially when it comes to the price of groceries, so their belief in this program, it just blows our mind, and we're so thankful for everybody," said Thompson.
Though the temperatures on Saturday were well in the negatives, the hearts of participants in the Coldest Night of the Year Fundraiser helped keep them warm.

The Pine Creek First Nation held their First Annual Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, and in the words of Volunteer and Band Councilor Kevin McKay, it went perfect.
"The day was perfect. It went smooth, everything was good, all our volunteers were out here bright and early, 7:00 AM. Holes were pre-drilled Friday evening so that wasn't an issue," said McKay.
He praised the volunteers and staff involved in organizing the derby, saying they played a large part.
"The derby was good. It was a huge success thanks to all the volunteers, our staff, our fishing committee, everyone did their part," said McKay.
He also said though the derby went well, there's only one major change they plan for next year: bigger cash prizes.
"The only changes we're going to make for next year is we're going to be bigger and better. Prizes are going to be bigger and better, the cash prizes," said McKay.
Even though the next Pine Creek First Nation Annual Ice Fishing Derby is a year away, it's looking like it'll catch on quick.

The Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit, or MIVOAU, conducted an operation in the Interlake on Friday. The unit consists of officers from both the Manitoba RCMP and the Winnipeg Police Service.
During the operation, the unit arrested 2 individuals with warrants, and Lundar RCMP arrested a third individual in a traffic stop.
In an emailed statement, the RCMP said "MIVOAU continues to work closely with community leadership throughout Manitoba to target violent and prolific offenders while enhancing police presence, creating safer streets for all Manitobans."

It is a gift that is going to impact Dauphin and the surrounding area for many years to come.
Upon his passing, Peter Sklepowich gave an over 507 thousand dollar donation to the Dauphin and District Community Foundation.
Since then, a grow project on his land netted another donation of over 76 thousand.
When the land was sold, the foundation received a further 325 thousand.
This past week, a final cheque of $29,000 from the closure of the estate was presented, bringing the final total of Peter's gift to just over 900 thousand dollars.
Foundation Executive Director Kit Daley was blown away by the generousity.
"One of the reasons why he chose DDCF in his estate planning is that he liked that his donation would never be touched, but his donation could grow and continue to give back forever. As his gift grows, so does the amount that it provides for granting. For anyone who loves their community, what a perfect way to ensure support for projects that improve life for residents."
The Peter Sklepowich Memorial Fund has been created with those funds.

Looking for work? You're in luck: the Neepawa Job Fair is on Monday. Marilyn Crewe, Economic Development Officer for Neepawa, said the stats from last year's job fair are promising.
"Last year we had 16 businesses and educators and 226 job seekers attend the event. There were 12 hires, and 11 pending, 1 month after the event," said Crewe.
Crewe said the event is set up so every employer with a table has jobs currently available, so job seekers don't have to guess if there's any availability.
She also said there is no cost associated for attending on either side of the table.
"There is no cost for businesses to have a booth there, and there is no cost for the job seekers to attend," Crewe said.

A survey that uses feedback from local residents along with statistical data to evaluate how the community is doing has released its final report.
Dauphin and District Community Foundation Executive Director Kit Daley says Dauphin Vital Signs provides grades in eight key areas, and offers insights from Dauphin residents on the strengths and areas that need to be worked on.
"Out strengths were definitely our standard of living and arts and recreation, both of which scored an A-. Areas that need work include education and learning - which includes access to learning opportunities, and culture and belonging. Although residents expressed a strong sense of belonging, the score reflects moderate to low levfels of civic inclusion and representation."
Daley also describes how the results will be used.
"We share the information with decision makers and policy makers at all levels of government , as well as sharing it with Mountainview School Division and the RCMP. And we hope that it will provide the information needed to start working on the areas that need to be worked on to improve our quality of life."

The Winnipeg Police Service has said the subject of an Amber Alert today was found safe.
They issued an Amber Alert for a 2-year-old child just before 1 PM today.
A news release from the Winnipeg Police Service says they responded to a report of a child abduction at 10 AM today.
They previously said they were looking for 2 women in relation to the abduction.

The Parkland Chamber of Commerce is hosting their Chamber Celebration Night on March 18th.
"It's a really nice event, where we show our appreciation for the members and key groups, individuals in the community, there's a couple different business awards," said Kamryn Winters, Executive Director of the Parkland Chamber of Commerce.
This year, the Chamber is honouring several businesses for 60 years of partnership with the Chamber, including 730 CKDM.
"This year is a big year for milestones for 60, I think we have about 8 other businesses celebrating 60 year milestones," said Winters.
Among the individual award nominees for Business Person of the Year is CKDM's own General Manager, Allan Truman.
Winters hopes for a strong turnout of Chamber members for the night.
"Come and celebrate and support the businesses that make up our Parkland and make it better," said Winters.
The Parkland Chamber of Commerce has been in operation for 122 years. 730 CKDM has been a member of the Chamber for almost half of that time.

The 5th Annual Binscarth Winterfest takes place this Sunday, and organizers look forward to some good winter fun.
Marg Fraser, Vision 2020 Committee Member, said she's happy with how far Winterfest has come.
"It's heartwarming you know, my goal was to get people having fun again, of all ages," Fraser said.
This year there are plenty of winter activities to take part in, like skating, horse drawn sleigh rides, and a 50/50 draw.
"Our day is wonderful, it's a completely family-focused day," Fraser said.
There's even a new event this year that younger attendees can enjoy.
"New this year is the Shinny and Binny, which local parents have taken on to organize, letting the kids get out and have some shinny hockey games," said Fraser.
Fraser also said that aside from meals, there's one major reason to attend: no costs for activites.
"There's no cost to skate, there's no cost to go down the slide, in fact we have crazy carpets available free, you just have to put them back where you found them," said Fraser.
