Swan River MLA Rick Wowchuk says he is disappointed that he was not allowed to take part in the official grand opening of a Culture Arts Centre at Swan Valley Regional Secondary School.
Wowchuk says he received a call at around 9 pm Friday night from his brother Gary - who is chair of the Swan Valley School Division - informing him that the Premier's office had asked that Rick not be allowed to speak at Saturday's event.
Rick admits that was a very awkward conversation.
"I am sure he felt quite uncomfortable being the deliverer of that news. But yet, I did not expect anything different from this Premier. Time and time again, we witness in the house this type of behaviour. He always talks about One Manitoba, but that it is the furthest thing that we are seeing."
Premier Wab Kinew was in Swan River for the opening and spoke at the event.
Besides being excluded from an event within his home riding, Wowchuk was also sad to be excluded from an event at a facility that is very close to him.
"Being an educator in that school for 25 years. And also, I am an alumni of the first ever graduating class at that school. Yes, I have never heard of anything quite like that,believe me."
Wowchuk also did a lot of the lobbying for the funding for this project, which was actually approved by the former Conservative government in 2023.
