Boris Nowosad grew up in the Grandview/Roblin area.
He's lived in Dauphin for the past 40 years and has been fiddling for 65 to 70 years. His dad was a musician and always took Boris with him when he performed.
Boris took some lessons along the way; he loves the old-time music, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Nowosad said music means everything to him.
"Playing music is what keeps me going," said Nowosad. "I love music. I've met so many incredible people through music throughout the years."
In 1992, Boris performed 95 nights. He's performed more than 1,000 times over the years, and still loves to perform when he can.
"I get a great thrill out of it. It's nice relaxation for me," offered Nowosad. "I feel so good the next day knowing I did something I enjoy. After I play, I feel great."
Over the weekend, Boris was in Carman for a special ceremony. The Dauphinite was inducted into the Manitoba Fiddle Association's Wall of Fame. He was one of three fiddlers in the province to have been inducted.
"It was very overwhelming for me. I never expected this to happen," ended Nowosad. "As overwhelming as it was, I was very proud to have been chosen to be inducted."
Earlier this year, Boris was honoured by Dauphin MLA and Manitoba Agriculture Minister, Ron Kostyshyn.
Ron provided Boris with an MLA Member Statement, which was read in the Legislature this past December. A part of the statement reads "it is my pleasure to rise today in recognition of a remarkable musician and true community treasure - Mr. Boris Nowosad."
"Oh, that was outstanding. I wasn't expecting that. I feel great about it. To be recognized by your MLA and for it to be brought up in the Legislature," ended Nowosad. "It was overwhelming and such an incredible feeling."
Seven decades performing and now, Boris Nowosad is in the Manitoba Fiddle Association's Wall of Fame.
