Ste. Rose Municipality Mayor Robert Brunel says 2025 was an uneventful year for the east Parkland community.
"The weather co-operated this year so we did not have any major flooding or anything like that. So, from an infrastructure standpoint things held together, and we managed to get through the year. Then, just recently, the province announced some funding through the GRO program for bridge and road rehabilitation."
Brunel says the funding will allow for some of those road and bridge projects to begin much sooner than originally anticipated.

2026 promises to be another busy year in the City of Dauphin.
Besides continued work on the new lagoon in the city construction is also xepected to begin this year on a new justice facility as well as a new day care that will be located in Maamawi Park.
Dauphin Mayor David Bosiak says the new year will also see the continuation of a pilot project launched last year with the Dauphin Rail Museum.
"Because we do not have a waiting room for the Via train that comes through Dauphin we have set up a deal with the museum board to keep the museum open while people are waiting for the train. And Jason Gilmore and the board has done a really good job of facilitating that and we are seeing really positive feedback from having the station open."
This year will also mark the 50th anniversary of the Fort Dauphin Museum.

Plans are now coming into shape for Dauphin's Malanka celebration.
It will take place on January 10th at the 8th Avenue Hall.
If you have never been to a Malanka, Ryan Rauliuk explains what you can expect.
"First of all, you are going to come in and be welcomed by our hosts, as well as the band "By Request". There will also be some drinks available there. Then there will be a meal, followed by performances from the dancers, carollers, and a skit. Following the skit, the dance will begin."
There will also be some special songs and celebrations taking place around midnight that evening.
Tickets are $50 each and are selling well already.

Manitobans will be paying more for electricity in 2026.
The Public Utilities Board announced Tuesday it has approved an interim 4 per cent general rate increase for Manitoba Hydro starting January 1.
The increase applies to all customers, except for classes in Manitoba Hydro’s diesel zone.
Manitoba Hydro was asking for a 3.5 per cent rate increase each year for the next three years in its initial application.
However, the PUB said the increase is needed to protect the “financial health” of Hydro due to the impacts of a severe drought.
The board says it expects final rates for 2026, and 2027, will be approved next year.
Manitoba Hydro’s most recent rate increase was one per cent in April 2024.
The provincial government froze Hydro rates in 2025 as an affordability measure.

Municipal leaders in Dauphin are excited for the new year and the anticipated launch of construction of a new Justice Centre in the city.
Mayor David Bosiak says Premier Wab Kinew has made it no secret that shovels will hit the ground in the fall of 2026.
"The Premier has mentioned it at two different openings of government. And, every time he is in Dauphin he talks about it. We have been involved in the pre-consultation process, and we are really looking forward to it. In the meetings that we have had with the province and the RM about what this building is going to look like, it is going to be huge. It is going to be the biggest project in Dauphin in probably the past 50 years."
Meanwhile Rural Municipality of Dauphin Reeve Ernie Sirski is also looking forward to the start of construction following several announcements of such by Premier Kinew.
"He used the words corrections facility and shovels in the ground in the fall of 2026. So we will be looking forward to that. That will be a huge boost to Dauphin and surrounding area."
Construction of a new justice facility was a key campaign promise of the NDP during the 2023 provincial election campaign.

Many residents in Dauphin and neighbouring communities will be out Wednesday night to say goodbye to 2025 and hello to 2026.
Organizers of the Dauphin RIDE Program will also be available if you decide that your evening will contain a few drinks, and you want to ensure that both you and your vehicle get home safely.
The RIDE Program will be operational between 9 PM and 3 AM on New Year's Eve.
Sho Sho Shuttleworth-Lafontaine says the Program has been a success again this year, largely because of the efforts of their many volunteers and sponsors.
"We had a lot of first time volunteers step up this year. New volunteer drivers, that some of them came out just for one night to try it out, while others have been out there every night. So, it has been really great. When it comes to sponsors, the community of Dauphin is amazing. We have businesses, and even individuals, that have stepped up and said that the Program is awesome and we would like to throw some money your way."

The completion of the Main Street South Revitalization project and progress on both the lagoon and new city-owned day care facility highlighted some of the major projects in Dauphin in 2025.
But Mayor David Bosiak says the year was also a very busy one for administrators at City Hall.
"We had a huge by-law review that we wrapped up in 2025 which updated all of the city's by-laws. We had some stuff on the books that was really outdated. And we have also done some major updating on our animal services program."
Bosiak was also pleased to see a new Recreation funding agreement with the R-M of Dauphin reached this past year after 2-1/2 years of work towards it.
Besides continuing on with some of the major projects started this year Bosiak is also excited for the much anticipated start of construction of a new justice facility in Dauphin in 2026.

In a year-end interview with CKDM News Now Grandview Municipality Mayor Lyle Morran says farmers in the west Parkland community had a strong year in 2025.
"I think generally inthis area the yields were among the highest that they have ever been. Unfortunately the prices are way down which makes it tough because costs continue to go up. Land prices have really jumped so far but there still seems to be a demand to buy and rent land. I think any of the established farmers will say that they had a good year."
As for the Municipality Morran says their country roads are in good shape after getting a lot of gravel put on them and grading done this year.
Another big highlight was the progress made towards a new ice plant for both the skatig rink and curling rink in that community after the province came forward with some funding.

A sad resolution to a missing persons case from the weekend.
Ste Rose RCMP say the body of 41-year-old Becky McIvor was found Sunday afternoon in a wooded area near Ebb & Flow First Nation.
She had been reported missing on Christmas Eve.
Police say while no criminality is suspected the cause of her death is still under investigation pending results of the autopsy.
