Construction has begun on a new winter attraction in Riding Mountain National Park.
The Klar So Snow Pavillion is the largest enclosed, roofed snow sculpture in Western Canada, standing at 16 feet tall and stretching nearly 50 feet in length.
Throughout the winter season, it will serve as a central hub for winter recreation, as well as a warming and social gathering space for skaters, snowshoers, and festival-goers
The Klar So Snow Pavilion will also serve as the central anchor for Clear Lake Country's winter programming, including Fire + Frost, which will take place March 13th to 15th.

It's a sure sign that winter has officially arrived in Dauphin.
Dauphin Rec Services announced on Tuesday that the outdoor rink on the DRS fairgrounds is now open for the year.
There is no cost to use the rink, but DRS asks that you respect the facility and the other users.

Manitoba Justice will try once again next month to hold an official grand opening ceremony for the newly renovated Dauphin Courthouse.
The ceremony will now take place on January 15th at the location on 114 River Avenue West.

The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba will have a new leader heading up its Executive in 2026.
At their Annual General Meeting earlier this month, the organization elected Tim Rowan to be their new President.
He replaces Clint Swain, who completed a two-year term as President this past year.
Rounding out the Executive are Vice President Clarke Swain, and Brent Miller, Dallas Mennie, Simon Atkinson, and Mitchell Eastley.
The organization, which oversees events such as the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair and Manitoba AG Ex, also welcomed seven new directors while five others stepped down.

Chronic Wasting Disease has been found in deer in two locations in the Parkland.
The provincial department added it’s also found one new case near Dropmore - south of Roblin.
CWD impacts animals in the deer family.
The province says the new cases were in three mule deer, two females and one male, and two male white-tailed deer.
They are asking people hunting to send their animals for testing, especially those hunting in areas with confirmed cases of CWD.
A total of 35 CWD cases have been confirmed since 2021, according to the province.

Several Parkland emergency departments will have limited hours over Christmas.
According to Prairie Mountain Health, only seven ERs will be open 24-hours-a-day all this week.
That includes Dauphin, Russell, and Swan River, as well as Brandon, Minnedosa, Neepawa, and Virden.

Following a year of drought-like conditions in 2024, farmers in the RM of Dauphin saw much more favourable growing conditions this past year.
Reeve Ernie Sirski says even with crop prices being significantly lower this year, it was a huge positive that all farmers in the RM at least had something to sell this year.
"In 2025, we managed to get the entire crop seeded. I think almost every farmer in the RM was able to do that. In 2024, we had 15 percent of the acreage in the RM go unseeded, which was a huge financial impact on our farmers."
Among the other highlights for 2025 were the long-awaited reaching of a new Recreation funding agreement with the City of Dauphin, as well as the introduction of Grady Stephenson as the new CAO for the RM, replacing Nicole Chychota.

2025 was a year of change for the council of Gilbert Plains Municipality.
Two separate by-elections were held this year to replace councillors that resigned prior to their full term being completed in 2026.
But Reeve Jim Manchur has no concerns over having to have had multiple by-elections in one year.
"For various reasons, they decided to not carry on with council. And we are certainly looking forward to the new people that stepped up, and are happy that they were able to do that. We are looking forward to the elections that are coming up in the fall of 2026, which will be another opportunity for more people to take on the challenge of being on council."
Kristen Rubeniuk won the by-election held this past spring. while Richard Kruk earned a seat at the council table by winning another by-election in the fall.

A traffic stop of a known driver without a license turned into a much larger incident for the Dauphin RCMP on Friday.
Around 4:20 pm, Mounties pulled over a vehicle on 6th Avenue SW, knowing that the driver did not possess a license, and was ordered not to be in Dauphin.
A search of the driver found drug paraphernalia, which led to a further search of the vehicle.
That turned up 22 grams of meth as well as other drugs, drug paraphernalia and some Canadian cash.
31-year-old Shannon Gauthier of Camperville and her passenger, 44-year-old Sean Bouchie of Dauphin, each face three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, and one count each of possession of proceeds of crime.
Gauthier also faces several driving prohibition and failing to comply charges.
