It was closed after severe flooding in the spring of 2022 that damaged the trail and its infrastructure.
Three years later, the Boreal Trail in Riding Mountain National Park is open. The Boreal Trail winds through the boreal forest, crosses fenland, and offers tranquil views of Jackfish Creek. New bridges, boardwalks, benches, and trail tread support a refreshed visitor experience in this sanctuary of towering trees and glistening water.
It's located about 25 minutes from Dauphin and 25 from Wasagaming.
"It's pretty easy to access. It's a short 1.2-kilometre loop trail that is great for families," said Brett Smith, Visitor Experience Product Development Officer with Riding Mountain National Park. "It's also for those who use mobility aids. That was a cool feature with this project; it allowed us to invest in areas that support the broad groups of users that will use this trail."
There is also a new exhibit featured along the trail. It was developed in collaboration with Anishinaabe Elders. It highlights how wetlands connect land and people through water and describes the importance of the boreal forest to life and creation.
"It shares a little bit of different perspectives than what was there previously," offered Smith. "The hope is that people can connect differently with the importance of the boreal forest and that part of Riding Mountain National Park."
The trail is open year-round. In the summer, it's maintained for hiking. In the winter, it remains open for snowshoeing. You can see current trail conditions, seasonal changes, and temporary closures on the trail cam.
The leaves are starting to change and fall. Wildlife is out and about. Riding Mountain National Park is at its peak of beauty, and you can be a part of the magic. Whether it's to go for a drive through or stop for a picnic with friends, Smith says this time of the year is the perfect time for a visit.
"It's a great time of year to come and visit the park," ended Smith. "For the most part, Manitoba mosquitoes have been put to bed for the season. Come out and explore everything Riding Mountain National Park has to offer."

Swimming is back in Dauphin.
The Kin Aquatic Centre inside the Parkland Rec Complex is open after a month of maintenance.
There is a lane swim on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m.
"We are super excited to have the pool back open," said Lindsey Kyle, assistant general manager with Dauphin Rec. "It's freshly painted. Happy to have the Parkland Gators and all of our key members back."
At this time, Dauphin Rec is unable to provide lifeguard coverage during daytime hours. This means the pool will be closed between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. It will reopen after 4:00 p.m.
There will be aqua fit in the evenings and adult swim. Swimming lessons will also be a priority, and all other programming will return.
Kyle says they hope the staffing shortage will only be short-term.
"We have been and actively are looking for a head lifeguard," ended Kyle. "It's a common problem across Canada right now. There is a lifeguard shortage. We have been fortunate the past couple of years to have had graduating students stick around for a year or two, and they've been able to cover daytime shifts."

As of October 1st, if you work at Minimum Wage in Manitoba, you get a wage increase.
The province has increased Minimum Wage, for provincially-regulated employees, to $16.00 per hour.

No vote was needed to determine the new leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party.
Former Winnipeg Blue Bomber Willard Reaves was declared the winner of the party leadership contest on Monday. Reaves was the only qualified canditate and was declared the winner without a vote.
Reaves first ran for the Liberals in a March 22 byelection in Fort Whyte. He lost to Obby Khan, the leader of the Progressive Conservatives. He lost in the fall 2023 provincial election.
In a statement, the president of the Liberals, Terry Harward, says the former Bomber great will transition into the new position over the coming weeks.
"Mr. Reaves brings a wide range of experiences to the position of party leader," Hayward said. "He will work closely with Cindy Lamoureux, our sitting member, to champion issues and concerns of Manitobans across the province."'
The now 66-year-old played for the Bombers from 1983 to 1987.

Here is a list of what is open and closed on Tuesday during National Daay for Truth and Reconciliation.
All City of Dauphin-owned facilities are closed, including City Hall, the Parkland Rec Complex, the city Waste Disposal Site, and the Public Works Shop.
All local municipal offices and area landfills are also closed on Tuesday, and will re-open on Wednesday.
Dauphin Co-op grocery store, and Canada Safeway are all open until 6 pm today.
Ken's No Frills in Dauphin is open until 9 pm.

Municipality of McCreary says repairs to their main water line have been completed.
However, they ask residents to continue to conserve water as much as possible, in order to aid the recovery of the reservoir.
The boil water advisory also remains in effect until further notice, meaning water must be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before it is used for any kind of comsumption.
The bulk water station in McCreay will remain closed until 9 am this morning to allow the system to stabilize and the reservoir to refill,.

It was an arrival that was two years in the making.
So when it arrived last week, it was all smiles at the Gilbert Plains Fire Department—a 2023 Ford Walk-Around Rescue Apparatus. Rescue 3 will hold all the equipment that both Rescue 1 and Rescue 2 trucks previously held.
Courtney Roehl, the CAO for the Gilbert Plains Municipality, says this was a much-needed upgrade.
"It's great. It was definitely a necessity for the community," said Roehl. "We can have all of our equipment in one truck. It's all equipped with radio communication, slide-outs, and roll-out trays for all our extrication equipment, breathing apparatus, first-aid supplies, traffic signage, and more."
Jim Musey serves as the department's fire chief. In all, 22 men and women serve and protect the Gilbert Plains RM.
"We have a great team here. They are always willing to step up and help," ended Roehl. "We have good response times. Many of our firefighters are municipal staff. They're fantastic and are a great asset to our team."

Tuesday is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
It's a day to honour the survivors of Canada's residential school system, their families, and communities. It's also to commemorate the children who never returned home.
Jarri Thompson is with the DFC.
"This day gives us the opportunity to pause, reflect, and learn so that the harms of the past are never repeated," said Thompson. "It also helps us to understand how systemic racism began in Canada through policies like residential schools and the Indian Act. And the deep and lasting harms they caused to Indigenous peoples, their families, and communities."
The first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was held in 2021.
"As an Indigenous woman who is raising children in today's education system and someone who works in the social service sector, this day brings profound meaning to me," ended Thompson. "I see firsthand the lasting impact of residential schools and systemic racism. This day is a reminder of why we must learn from our history, so we don't repeat it."
West Region Treaty 2 and 4 hosts Orange Shirt Day on September 30 from 10:00 to 2:00 at 8th Avenue Hall in Dauphin.

If you live in the RM of Dauphin, you won't be receiving your utility bills by mail because of the Canada Post strike.
You're being asked to pick up your bill at the RM office. You can also call them at 638-4531 to get your balance to avoid missed payments and penalties.
October 31 is when utility bills and 2025 property taxes must be paid. The RM of Dauphin office and shop will be closed on Tuesday in respect of the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.
Regular hours resume on Wednesday, October 1.

Three people were taken into custody after they damaged property and threatened customers with bear spray at a bar in Dauphin.
On Friday, officers responded to the bar at 9:33 p.m. When they arrived, the suspects had already fled, but were located a short time later at a hotel. There was cocaine and methamphetamine in the hotel room. During a full search, officers seized a quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine, Canadian currency, knives, and drug paraphernalia.
20-year-old Deena Mintuck from Tootinaowaziibeeng First Nation and 21-year-old Melony Allarie were both remanded into custody and face a slew of charges.
A 23-year-old man from Tootinaowaziibeeng First Nation was released and will appear in court at a later date.

Tuesday is the deadline for fan voting for this year's Manitoba Country Music Association Awards.
Roblin's Ryan Keown encourages the public to go to the M.C.M.A. website and have their say.
"I know for the Fans' Choice award, J.R. Charron is nominated, along with Catie St. Germain. There is some really good talent here in Manitoba that is up for that award. And, [The Highwaymen] is up for best Tribute Band. So, by all means, go to the Manitoba Country Music Association website."
Binscarth's J.R. Charron is also nominated with Keown as part of The Highwaymen tribute show.
"Those awards and nominations are worth their weight in gold. And, I think, they are among the most important among the M.C.M.A. awards because they are voted on by the public. You do not have people getting together and pooling votes for your favourite artist within the industry. So, it is pretty cool that they are leaving it up to the general public to make that decision."
Dauphin's Kates Outlaw is also up for the Fan's Choice award.
You can also vote for radio station of the year, which 730 CKDM is nominated for.
