The GACC in Grandview is not among the national finalists for this year's Kraft Hockeyville. 

After being named the Manitoba finalists earlier this month, the GACC lost out the national finalist spots to Taber, Alberta and Tumbler Ridge, BC.  

Those communities will now compete for $250,000 in arena renovations and an NHL pre season game.

For being the Manitoba finalist, Grandview still receives $50,000 for arena renovations, and $10,000 in new hockey eaquipment.

Main Street South between 11th and 12th Avenues South in Dauphin will remain open as normal this Monday.

The southbound stretch of that portion of road was to be closed today to allow for cleanup work on the site of the former Queens Apartment building, which was destroyed by fire last month.

However, crews aren't doing any work on the site today, which means the roadway will not be closed.

The City says they'll post on their social media pages when work on the site will resume.

This year's Manitoba Outstanding Young Farmers hail from Oakburn.

Braden and Misty Drul, who operate a multi-generation grain and oilseeds farm, were selected over two other couples during the competition last weekend at Elkhorn Resort.

They will now represent Manitoba t the Canadian Outstanding Young Farmer competition this November in Vancouver.

Braden has nothing but good things to say about the Young Farmer program. 

"We had some friends that went through it years ago.  It is an absolutely fantastic organization.  It is really neat to have all of us get together.  The peer recognition is fantastic, but also the opportunity for us to meet a bunch of really great couples that are all looking to excel in the ag industry."  

Other finalists were Joe and Jenn Firesen of Grunthal, and Brett and Chantal McRae of Brandon.

The City of Dauphin is asking residents to use the Residential Recycling Depot on 1st Avenue SE properly.

Recently, city staff found a toilet dumped at the site. Toilets are not accepted.

Video footage showed an individual carrying the toilet and leaving it beside the bins on March 16 at 9:37 a.m. Illegal dumping may be subject to enforcement and fines under the City bylaws.

Ongoing misuse of the Recycling Depot diverts staff from essential services, creates unnecessary cleanup costs, impacts the cleanliness and safety of the site, and jeopardizes the future of this service.

Parkland Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a special elevated A.I. seminar this Monday.

Executive Director Kamryn Winters says the event will look at how you can use A.I. as your assistant.

"I think this workshop will be good for solo-preneurs or people in non-profit organizations that wear multiple hats in their role. They are trying to manage social media, marketing, answering emails, and sending out sponsorship letters.  All of those things, A.I. can actually help with a lot of that."

The workshop begins at 10 AM on Monday at the Best Western Plus hotel in Dauphin.

Admission is $20 for Chamber Members, and $30 for non-members.

A 31-year-old from the Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation has been charged with first degree murder.

On July 28, 2025, at a home in the community, a 33-year-old female was killed, and a 26-year-old man was seriously injured. Initially, Frank La Forge was arrested and charged last August. 

On Thursday, officers from the Yellowhead and Russell Detachments arrested Darion Burns while he was driving along Highway 45. He was taken into custody without incident. 

On top of the first degree murder charge, Burns is charged with attempted murder, and obstructing justice.

He will remain in custody.

The Parkland Chamber of Commerce hosted their Chamber Awards on Wednesday, which saw several Parkland businesses honoured for positive contributions to their communities. 

There are 2 awards specifically for community appreciation: the Eric Irwin Community Appreciation Award for individuals, and one for groups. This year's winner of the individual award was Lindsay Dingwall. Having volunteered and worked with several community organizations like the Dauphin & District Community Foundation and the Dauphin Friendship Centre, she says the award makes her feel like just one piece in a puzzle. 

"It's humbling, I don't know what else to say other than that, because I know and see all the other people around me who constantly give, so I truly mean it when I am this one person in a community of volunteers...it's a community in itself, you meet really great people who are all working towards the same goals of just building a better community," said Dingwall. 

Another member of the community of volunteers is Steven Roznowsky, Treasurer for the Dauphin RIDE Program. The volunteer group won this year's Eric Irwin Community Appreciation Award for groups, and Roznowsky said that over the years, the RIDE Program's journey has definitely made a difference, but they'll never say no to more volunteers. 

"They journey's been pretty smooth. We all want people to be safe, that's why we don't charge for the rides home, and the community itself really appreciated us doing that...volunteers are the lifeblood of our program, and if we didn't have volunteers we don't have a program. It's like Brandon had a RIDE Program, or the Red Nose Program, got shut down because no volunteers came forward," said Roznowsky. 

If a community is only as good as the people that live there, then with organizations like the RIDE Program and volunteers like Lindsay Dingwall, the Parkland is one of the best communities out there.

The School bus driver and Carberry Chamber of Commerce vice-chair won a by election earlier this week by garnering 98 votes.

The Watson Art Centre's concert series for 2026-27 promises a little bit of everything for music lovers. 

It starts on September 26th with a tribute band out of Winnipeg called I Heart Zeppelin, and also includes Chest Fever on October 24th, the Stanley County Cut-Ups on January 23rd, Murray Kinsley and Wicked Grin on March 13th, and the Sean Tayloe Band on May 15th.

Cam Bennett with the Watson says ticket prices have also been set. 

"The ticket price for each one individually will be $45.  But you can get the series pass for $190, which is a $35 savings if you buy the series pass.  But we are planning to have series passes available for sale at the Parkland Business Expo  at a discount early bird price of $175, which is a $50 savings from buying each show seperately." 

Bennett says three of the five bands that make up this year's concert series are from Manitoba.

The Dauphin Friendship Centre's Youth Centre Spring Break Program takes place from Monday March 30th to Thursday April 2nd, with the deadline for signing up on Monday March 23rd. 

Natalie Gabriel, Youth Centre Community Mentor, said there are lots of reasons why parents should sign up their kids for the program. 

"It's a safe space where kids could come and make new friends in a non-judgemental zone, we offer snack and lunch throughout spring break...I think it's just a good place for kids to come and learn new life skills, as well as connecting with other people," said Gabriel. 

Gabriel said she has a fun week planned for kids in the program: starting strong with a pizza cooking class on Monday and growing a herb garden on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday are more focused on community fun, with going to the Cinema to see a movie on Thursday, and bowling on Friday. The program is for kids from 6 to 12. 

Each day only has 25 spots available for kids. Thursday and Friday's spots are already filled, and there's only a couple spots left for Monday and Tuesday. Gabriel said though the spots are mostly full, there is potential for some flexibility. 

"I don't think it would be a hard cap, I think we would be able to adjust the number to maybe 30," said Gabriel. 

One other reason Gabriel said parents should sign up their kids: no costs for parents. 

"It is free. Our spring break program is free for all kids who are registered," said Gabriel.

Dauphin's Kates Outlaw is set to release their new album "Echo of the Engines."

Band member Steve Lukey says, to celebrate this milestone, they'll be holding an album release concert on June 6th, here in Dauphin.

"We will have our album release here in town, and we are going to do it at Credit Union Place.  We had overwhelming support for the first album release, and ended up doing two shows back-to-back.  So, we figured this time we will do one big show and see what happens.  It will be a neat thing to play in our hometown arena."

The show will begin at 8 PM.

Tickets are $25 each, with kids 5-and-under admitted for free.
